We’ve
been waiting for over a decade but the time
has come to build our new high school!
With Measure Q, the class of 2007 will
accept their diplomas at a new,
state-of-the-art high school campus that
will serve the educational and career needs
of all of West Sacramento’s youth.
Opened
in 1954, James Marshall High School was
built to serve a maximum 800 high school
students.
Today, River City High School has
added classrooms and upgraded its
facilities.
But over 1,600 students are now
crammed into the campus.
That’s why West Sacramento parents,
students and educators created Measure Q –
to demand better student achievement and to
build our new high school.
Measure Q will end high school overcrowding
and offer superior educational and career
programs for our youth.
Measure Q will help fund a new comprehensive
high school for West Sacramento – the
first new high school in decades.
Measure Q means kids will enjoy a better
high school experience.
- Smaller class sizes in state-of-the
art classrooms and labs.
- Individualized college prep courses.
-
Specialized programs to get at-risk
kids back on track.
- A bigger library open to the public.
-
A new theater and better music and
art rooms.
- Industry-supported job and career
training, and school-to-work programs.
- Sports
and recreation facilities for use by high
school teams and West Sacramento residents.
Measure Q is the result of over 13 years of
community planning.
Road improvements and additional buses will
reduce traffic near the new high school.
Developers will pay their fair share of the
cost and a citizens oversight committee will
review all of the spending. All new funds
for the high school will be used for the
site and construction of facilities. Not one
dollar will be used for bureaucrats or
administrator salaries.
