WEST
SACRAMENTO -- Voting unanimously, the City
Council went on record Wednesday as
supporting the Washington Unified School
District's $52 million bond measure on the
March 2 ballot.
If
Measure Q wins voter approval, general
obligation bonds would be used to pay for
site acquisition, construction and
equipping of a new high school.
The
district is in the process of purchasing
about 90 acres on Jefferson Boulevard,
south of the Pheasant Club, for the new
campus.
The
school would replace River City High,
built 50 years ago to accommodate 1,000
students. Today, enrollment tops 1,600.
At the
same time Wednesday, the council passed a
resolution supporting another ballot
measure, Proposition 55, which would
authorize sale of $12.3 billion in state
school bonds, which would provide matching
funds for local projects.
